WIN a copy of 10 things I love about money by Mat Megens

Mouthy Money readers can win one of six copies of 10 things I love about money by Mat Megens.

10 things I love about money by Mat Megens is a book that focuses on the small things you do every day and how that can completely change your financial happiness, rich or poor.

The book opens with a combination of quotes from such varied figures as Sun Tzu and Elle Brooks (the lead character of the film Legally Blonde). This sets the tone of an accessible and at times tongue-in-cheek tome which seeks to hold the hand of the reader through the financial journey they’re about to undergo.

It breaks down major concepts using 11 “rules” including focusing on daily spending, mastering debt and enjoying the journey.

The rules are a mix of low-key practical tips and big picture sweeping visions of what your money should be doing and how you should be thinking about it.

While Megens is quick to say there is no magic formula for wealth (which we agree with heartily at Mouthy Money) he does say the rules in the book do provide something of a framework for people to follow in order to get to grips with the “messy reality of money.”

The book, published by Wiley, is available widely with an RRP of £16.99.

About the author

Mat Megens is the founder of HyperJar, a spending app that helps people organise their money through savings pots, bill splitting and gives discounts and cashback in a number of ways.

Canadian Megens is a self-confessed “nerd through and through” and has a distinguished back story in finance, with an MBA and years working in technical bond markets under his belt.

He is refreshingly honest, for someone who has written a book about money and has worked in it most of his adult life. He admits his relationship with money has been terrible in the past, both in terms of managing it and the anxieties it brings.

But he says with much experience and learning he has developed a healthier and happy way of treating his money – which is why he developed HyperJar and has now written this book.

  1. I have started reading this book, it’s well written, witty and lots of practical advice that’s actually useable. Love the personality indicators, I wish I had this advice when I was in my twenties, I would have saved so much money.
